Milk in its various forms has been a part of human nutrition since ancient times and it has a long history. Packed with protein, calcium, vitamins D, and B12, milk is a nutritious liquid that is good for bone health.
It is also regarded as a complete protein since it has all 9 types of Amnio Acids (protein in simpler words)
You’ve often seen different varieties of milk in the dairy aisle. The aisle is exploded with milk and its alternative. But have you ever wondered what is the difference in each of these varieties?
SOURCES OF MILK
Animal Based Milk
These kinds of milk are widely available and are very common among us! They include Cow Milk, Buffalo milk, Camel Milk, and Goat milk. Plant-Based Milk
These are mostly lactose-free milk and are popular amongst vegans and lactose-intolerant people. They can be oat milk, hemp milk, almond milk, soy milk.

But, these varieties were not enough :p Milk further became a very popular beverage and was available in different forms. These forms can be made from any type of milk.
FORMS OF MILK
1. Whole milk
Whole Milk or Full Cream Milk is milk that is high in fat content. This type of milk is high in calories. It is full of flavor, creamier, and thicker milk. Full Cream Milk is pasteurized and is packed safely preventing the entry of micro-organisms
2. Skimmed Milk
Also called Skim Milk in some parts of the world, skimmed milk contains 0% fat. All of the fat content is removed before the milk is packaged. All the diet-conscious people who go skimmed milk which does not extra calories in your body.
3. Toned milk
Toned milk is ideally made by adding skimmed milk to whole buffalo milk. The main goal of the idea of toned milk was to reduce the fat content and increase the overall quantity of milk. This concept was developed by Indians to expand its production, affordability, and availability.
4. Pasteurized milk
This type of milk is available commonly. Here, any type of milk is heated at 700 degrees Celsius to kill bacteria. This process however does not interfere with the overall nutritional content of the milk. Heating the milk makes it safer to consume.
5. Flavored milk

Flavored milk contains edible components like chocolate, butterscotch, cardamom, Kesar, strawberry, added color, and sugar. This is usually done to enhance the flavor of the milk and increase and make it more detectable for kids to relish. Apart from added flavors and sugar, it is also packed with nutrients which are vital for development and growth.
THE BOTTOM LINE-
You may not be a kid anymore, but milk is still a healthy drink that you can enjoy. Make sure to read the nutritional facts before picking up a carton.
